SymbioTech Pilots Industrial Symbiosis Module at Roma Tre University

On 19 March 2026, the University of Patras conducted a pilot educational session at the Department of Business Studies of Roma Tre University in Rome, as part of the SymbioTech project's effort to validate its curriculum in real academic settings.

Researcher Niki Gkoloni delivered a two-hour session to Erasmus+ Master's students enrolled in the CSRS course, covering the core concepts of Module 1 on Industrial Symbiosis. The session was hosted by Prof. Maria Francesca Renzi and supported by researcher Atifa Amin, both from the Department of Business Studies at Roma Tre University, and was organised in collaboration with Prof. Psomas of the University of Patras.

Rather than a conventional lecture, the session was designed as a multi-method learning experience: theoretical input was combined with interactive group activities, hands-on exercises, and structured discussion, allowing participants to actively engage with the material and apply concepts in a collaborative environment.

This deliberate mix of teaching methods served a dual purpose — providing students with an engaging introduction to Industrial Symbiosis while simultaneously generating valuable feedback on the structure, clarity, and delivery of the SymbioTech educational materials. The session represented one of the first opportunities to test the curriculum with a live international audience.

The insights gathered will directly inform the refinement of the SymbioTech learning programme, ensuring that the materials are effective, accessible, and fit for diverse European educational contexts.

This activity marks an important dissemination and validation milestone for the project, demonstrating that SymbioTech's educational resources are already making an impact beyond the consortium — reaching students and academic institutions across Europe.
